Psalm 107 begins the last Book of the Psalms, Book IV. It opens with this memorable and mighty line:
"Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story -
those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
those he gathered from the lands,
from east and west, from north and south."
The redeemed of the LORD the world over - from the desert plains of Arabia to the tropical forests of Argentina; from the frozen tundra of Russia to the waterfalls of Nigeria, there is no place where God is not at work purchasing men, women and children from the enslaving power of sin and evil.
The LORD is redeeming people from all over our neighborhood - writing a new chapter in their story, re-editing the direction of the plot, transforming the characters of the narrative.
For those that wander, for those imprisoned, for those who hunger, for those who are scared, for those who are humbled; for those who rebel, who suffere affliction because of their iniquities, for those whose courage has melted away, for those who are wicked: When we cry out to the LORD in our trouble, he will save us from our distress.
And so our story will include this line: Give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing and patient love and his wonderful deeds for humanity the world over. Your story is part of a bigger story...tell your story; let God rework the direction of your story; thank God for his story.
