Please put Caramel in my Caramel Macchiato

That's what the barista told me to say next time I order a Caramel Macchiato at Starbucks.

Tara insisted that I swing by Starbucks after I was done grocery shopping at Meijers. She didn't have to twist my arm too much...I'm just so thrilled, after all these years, she if finally insisting I go get Starbucks drinks.

Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha is what Tara craves, so that's what I ordered for her. But what to get for me...I had ordered a Cafe Americano earlier in the morning...so what to get tonight? I thought I'd try a Caramel Macchiato, I hadn't had one in a couple years. I used to like them, but they tasted so blah that for the small fortune it cost for the drink it wasn't worth it. This time I asked the barista to put in a couple extra shots of caramel to give the drink more flavor. The barista gave me an odd look - she said there was no caramel syrup in the drink...it was vanilla...did I want more vanilla syrup or caramel. I gave the barista an odd look...why is there vanilla in it if it is called Caramel Macchiato. She shrugged her shoulders...the thought never really occurred to her. Then she asked if I wanted to switch the vanilla syrup for caramel. Yes! Of course...

This explains so much...when I used to get the drink, sometimes I'd get a small whiff of caramel in the drink, but not enough to satisfy my caramel craving. It is frustrating to order a drink thinking it will taste like caramel, and instead it tastes like blah. I suggested to the barista that they either take the vanilla out of the Caramel Macchiato and put caramel syrup in it, or change the name of the drink. I asked her what macchiato meant? Did it mean vanilla in Italian? She thought it meant "on top"; because the only caramel is actually drizzled on top of the drink. Drizzled? Not enough caramel for me.

Below is the ingredients of the drink; but from now on no more vanilla, only caramel in my Caramel Macchiato
"A signature Starbucks® beverage. A creamy mix of vanilla and freshly steamed milk marked with intense Starbucks® espresso, topped with velvety foam and our own proprietary buttery caramel sauce."

A classic post from the Tim Hallman I know and love. I'm truly, truly sorry you wasted $8 in such a fashion. It would have been better spent on a counselor advising you that you shouldn't wake roommates up at 3:45am telling them that you're going to marry Tara after the first date. :-)

Ah that explains so much. I always order the Caramel Macchiato and also think it taste bland. Now I know why.

Ah Kratz, don't you know that had I gone to counseling, I would have been advised to wake you up at 3:45am by sitting on your head. Aren't you glad I spend my $8 on Starbucks?!

Yes, yes I am!! I'm so glad you made the right decision. That would have been not so fun for me.

Hey if you get the Mocha, you know you're getting chocolate. Why would you want anything in it but chocolate? silly question!
